Is Invisalign Treatment Right for Me?

Invisalign treatment is a cutting-edge orthodontic solution that effectively addresses mild to moderate misalignment issues. Treatment consists of a series of clear aligners that gradually straighten your teeth. There's no need for adjustment appointments as there are no wires or brackets with the process. One of the most distinct features of Invisalign treatment is its transparent appearance, which helps you to wear them in public spaces, like school or work, without feeling self-conscious. Additionally, there aren't any dietary restrictions with Invisalign treatment, as you can remove them before eating or drinking.

When you first visit our office, Dr. Stafford will determine whether you're an ideal candidate for invisible braces. An ideal candidate needs to display responsibility and commitment, as both are crucial to successful treatment. Due to these requirements, we recommend our Victoria Invisalign treatment to patients 12 years old and older. Our dentist will outline how frequently you must wear your aligners and how to properly care for them at home.

5 Misalignment Issues Invisalign Treatment Addresses

If you're considering whether Invisalign treatment is right for you, it helps to understand what issues it's normally used to correct. Our helpful dental staff is happy to break down some of the misalignment issues we've treated with invisible braces. Some of the most common dental misalignment problems we've used Invisalign treatment for include:

  1. Crooked Teeth
  2. Crowded Teeth
  3. Overbites
  4. Underbites
  5. Unwanted Gaps

What to Expect During Treatment

Once you and Dr. Stafford decide to move forward with Invisalign treatment, she'll create 3D images of your smile using an iTero™ intraoral scanner. We'll send the scans out to a trusted dental lab to craft your clear braces. When we receive your aligners from the lab, we'll call you back to our office to double-check that they fit securely and comfortably.

Although it's normal to feel discomfort when you receive your first set of aligners, it will gradually fade as your smile gets used to them. From then on, we'll have you visit our practice periodically to receive a new set of aligners. Upon completion of treatment, our office can support you by providing quality retainers so that you don't lose any of the progress you've made.

Meeting Your Retainer Needs

At Impress Family Dentistry, we've improved and expanded our selection of retainers to better meet the needs of our patients. Dr. Stafford will sit down with you before your treatment has concluded to determine which type of retainer you'd like. Our retainer selection includes, but is not limited to:

  • Traditional Retainers: This type of retainer is normally composed of a wire attached to a molded plastic piece that sits against the roof of your mouth. Its ease of use and straightforward cleaning make it a popular option for many patients.
  • Vivera Retainers: If you're looking for a retainer that's similar to Invisalign treatment, Vivera may be ideal for you. This retainer option is made by the company that creates Invisalign treatment and consists of an upper and lower set of clear aligners.
  • Fixed Retainers: For patients looking for a more permanent retainer type, fixed retainers may be ideal for their situation. Also known as a bonded retainer, a fixed retainer is typically made of stainless steel and is placed on the back of your teeth, where it stays in place indefinitely.

Invisalign Treatment FAQs

If you have any questions about our Victoria Invisalign treatment services, our team is here for you. We'll work to answer your questions and help you confidently decide if it's right for you. Some of the most frequently asked questions about Invisalign treatment include:

How do I keep my aligners clean?
It's vital that you care for your aligners regularly and correctly. Some instructions include thoroughly rinsing your aligners in cold water after use, soaking your aligners using cleansing crystals, and storing them in a case to prevent losing them.

Can I receive Invisalign treatment if I've previously had braces?
Yes. We treat patients who have had traditional braces in the past but have experienced teeth shifting.

What should I do if I lose an aligner?
Although our dental practice stresses the importance of keeping track of your aligners, mistakes can happen. If you misplace an aligner, you should use your previous aligner as a placeholder and schedule an appointment with us for a replacement.
